April 7th is designated as National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, a special occasion to honor compassionate hearts and further spread the message 'Donate blood, save lives, a noble gesture.' In that humane atmosphere, the youth of Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy once again affirmed their pioneering role in the voluntary blood donation movement with practical and far-reaching activities

On average, the Live Blood Bank Club, under the University's Youth Union, organizes 3 to 4 blood donation drives annually, roughly every three months. In times of severe blood shortages at hospitals in the city, the number of drives can increase to 4 to 5 times per year for timely support. Each year, over 1,600 volunteers register to participate, resulting in the collection of approximately 1,200 units of blood – figures that demonstrate the youthful energy, enthusiasm, and strong spirit of sharing among the university's students. In addition to regular coordination with Da Nang Hospital, the University's Youth Union also expands connections with major medical units, notably the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center at Hue Central Hospital. Thanks to this cooperation, blood donation drives at the university are organized methodically, professionally, and with guaranteed quality.

Regarding this issue, Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, Head of the Hematology Department at Da Nang Hospital, shared, “Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy is one of our most effective collaborating units in blood collection. Blood donation drives at the university are always organized professionally, ensuring procedures and absolute safety for participants. Particularly, their readiness to provide support when there is an urgent call is something we greatly appreciate.”

Hue Central Hospital is also one of the units that frequently collaborates in the mobilization and promotion of voluntary blood donation at the University. According to Mr. Le Thanh Hai, Deputy Head of the Training, Scientific Research and External Relations Department, in charge of blood donation at the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center, Hue Central Hospital, “We are very impressed and highly appreciate the working methods of the Youth Union of Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy and the Live Blood Bank Club, from the promotion and mobilization of blood donation to the organization, which are all very meticulous and professional. Although we are a remote collaborating unit, all preparation and implementation at the University are always carried out according to the correct procedures and deliver practical results. As a result, through each collaborative event, the Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center at Hue Central Hospital collects an average of over 500 units of blood, contributing to timely emergency and treatment services for patients. This is truly a positive environment for medical students to learn, practice, and demonstrate their responsibility to the community.”

Mr. Hoang Le Phi Bach, Secretary of the University's Youth Union, who directly oversees the movement, shared, “Humanitarian blood donation is not only a meaningful act but also a way for medical students to demonstrate their responsibility and medical ethics. The Youth Union always considers this a core activity, both educating character and fostering the pioneering spirit of young people.” In addition to those who organize and connect in the blood donation movement, the Youth Union also recognizes many outstanding individuals in the humanitarian blood donation movement. For example, student Vo Tu Uyen (class YK05A) has donated blood 8 consecutive times, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen (an alumna of the University, currently a teaching assistant in the Medical Imaging department) has participated in voluntary blood donation 7 times. Thanks to these regular blood donors, hospitals have saved the lives of many patients. Currently, the voluntary blood donation movement has spread to a large number of students and staff throughout the university and has become a regular task of the University's youth. With these results and efforts, the University's Youth Union has been recognized and highly evaluated by the Da Nang City Youth Union as a unit that has consistently excelled in the voluntary blood donation movement for many years.

Proud to be a student of Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy, and as the President of the Live Blood Bank Club, student Nguyen Cuu Minh Quan is someone who silently connects and inspires the spirit of philanthropy in the student community. When asked about the most memorable experience in his journey with the club, Minh Quan emotionally shared, “The most impressive memories are definitely the two most recent blood donation drives organized by the club and the University's Youth Union. According to the plan, the club was only supposed to organize the first drive on January 5th, 2025, with the Hematology Department of Hue Central Hospital receiving the blood, and the next drive was scheduled about three months later. However, at that time, Da Nang faced a severe blood shortage and urgently needed blood to save lives. So, our club quickly coordinated, promoted, and mobilized within just one week to organize the second drive immediately. The club not only mobilized and called on all students in the university but also received media support from other universities in the area. As a result, despite the short preparation time, the club received nearly 300 units of blood from students and volunteers throughout the city. That was a moment I will never forget.”

On National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (April 7th), the youth of Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy continue to spread the message of love and sharing. The voluntary blood donations from the University's students not only save patients' lives but also ignite the flame of responsibility and compassion in the footsteps of future doctors, “Every drop of blood given, a life remains.
